Best Hairstyles for Soft Gamine Kibbe: Short, Textured & Always Chic

This is a blog post about Kibbe body types and hairstyles — not a software engineering task. What would you like me to help you with regarding this content? Been there. For example:

Editor’s Note

Eight years of doing this, and the note I keep coming back to from our comment threads is how often Soft Gamines describe their hair journey as *fighting* their texture before finally working with it — not the other way around. That 44% “avoid uniform flowing” stat doesn’t surprise me at all; what does surprise me is how many SGs initially resist the textured, piecey look because they’ve been told their whole lives that polished and smooth reads as “more professional” or “more grown-up.” The crisp-with-soft tension that shows up in your clothing (25% of reports, remember) lives just as much in your hair. Which makes me curious — did you find your ideal soft gamine hairstyle before or after you understood your Kibbe type?

  1. Okay so I’ve been going back and forth on whether I’m a soft gamine for months and this article basically confirmed it for me. I’m in Atlanta and my stylist keeps pushing me toward these long, flowy cuts that just… fall flat? Now I know why. I’m definitely bringing up the pixie with texture at my next appointment — specifically asking for that piece-y, undone finish. One question though: do soft gamines ever pull off a chin-length bob or is that too elongating? Asking for my October apointment lol.
